Wednesday, I returned to Auckland last night and have been at the Spark operational building in the CBD.
I have had productive meetings with the PABX (Telephone exchange) guru and learned about the systems for changing and maintaining phones in Antarctica. I have been introduced to some of the infrastructure that runs the core network of the IP link to Scott Base. Also I was shown the Auckland international telephone exchange where all the circuits from off continent terminate.
There is lots to learn and if you can put up with the noise of hundreds of cooling fans running in a concrete room, plenty to look at as well.
This shows how little I know about telephony by I'm keen to learn and it will become another string in my bow.
Heading back to Dunedin tonight.
